I’m Zakary C. Rodriguez

But you can call me Zak.

Zak with one K and no C (thanks dad)

I’m a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where I honed my skills as a Multidisciplinary Art Director.

I’ve been a part of the Texas Creative Portfolio program for the past two years, with a love for art direction.

I’ve always been a creative, I just wasn’t introduced to that term until I got to college. Up to that point, I always thought it was a designer and a musician and a writer and an illustrator. That’s all to say, Creative is a neat term that’s saved me a lot of “and”s.

I’m also a chronic perfectionist. Unfortunately, “undo” can’t get enough of me some days. On the bright side, about 70% of the work I’ve produced over the last two years is work I’m still proud of, so that’s a pretty decent turnaround if you ask me.

Here are some things I’m particularly passionate about.

  • If you couldn’t tell from my gallery, I love making music. I also love listening to and discussing music (go figure). I love most genres of music and listening to music is just as much of a hobby for me as making it. Some of my favorite albums are:

Childish Gambino’s “Atavista” and ““Awaken, My Love”

Tyler, the Creator’s “Igor” and “Call Me If You Get Lost

Arctic Monkey’s “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not

    The Strokes’ “The New Abnormal

Marvin Gaye’s “Dream Of A Lifetime

Little Simz’s “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert” and “NO THANK YOU

    &

    BROCKHAMPTON’s “iridescence

Again these are just some of my favorites and by no means the extent of my list, but that’s a rabbit hole I won’t force you to go down right now. (but please do ask if you’re interested, I can’t express enough how much I love talking about music)

  • Interstellar is, by far, my favorite movie of all time. The acting, the cinematography, the color palettes, and that score by Hans Zimmer… a classic time and time again. I’ve watched Interstellar (probably) around 10 times and every time it’s just as good as it was the first time I saw it. (I understand that 10 isn’t the highest number but the movie is 2 hours and 49 minutes long, that’s nearly 30 uninterrupted hours of my life)

  • The Oxford comma is one of the most useful punctuations in the English language. I love it more than I should and I’ve ranted about it two too many times but ‘pro-Oxford comma’ is a hill I’ll die on. I’ll never understand why there’s any opposition to something that’s so inherently good and beneficial.
